as i recall, i wrote a pretty positive review of gourmet-to-go on my old website. i can't imagine what i was thinking, except maybe, "wow! it's vegan! and it's in philadelphia!" because after a good handful of visits, i don't have any intention of going back. the whole kitchen area is disgusting and the food is just not remotely appetizing. everything is made with highly processed mock meats and the presentation is so poor that even the display of cakes from vegan treats looks nasty. items like the ham and cheese sandwich are just broad chunks of soy protein on a roll with some vegan condiments like nayo, pickles and lettuce. the kofta sub is just like a meatball sandwich with some liquid soy cheese smothered on top - yick. their chicken burgers are pretty good, but mostly they just make me miss red bamboo's soul chicken sandwiches and new york life and whoever i was before i moved here. but as per gourmet-to-go, they do boast the only vegan ice cream bar in town, and amongst the pickings are some serious contenders for best vegan ice cream ever. so enjoy, if you can get past the griminess of it all.
