i never actually reviewed kingdom of vegetarians on my old website, but being the strange bird that i am, i made some notes on my computer about a couple of my visits there. these are the dishes that i sampled:
dim sum:
scallion pancakes are thick with a crispy outside; not too greasy, a little doughy, very good
spring roll is typically tasty; great texture, fairly large
sesame chicken is odd – seitan totally covered in sesame seeds, you dip them yourself into the duck sauce; not the best I’ve had
fried stuffed taro very greasy and mushy, not really stuffed with much
sticky rice in lotus leaf is a bit aromatic, but good variation of flavor and texture; has veggies, some small cubes of solid fake meat; not as good as mekong’s banana leaf rice
fried bananas would be better with a sweet dipping sauce; very hot; outside is thick layer of puffy dough, inside are soft melty bananas; 2 come for free with fortune cookies
lunch:
wonton soup broth is delish, but wanton purses are filled with flavorful in not such a good way minced veggies
sweet and sour chicken this just didn’t taste like food; processed fake meat battered and fried, sauce is good; peppers, pineapple chunks and tomato (wrong choice!) make for an alright dish that is slightly disappointing
smoothies:
strawberry tastes a little overripe, can’t tell what’s in it; good but not so fabulous
